Here, then, is my big obvious question: Why the hell do people put up with this? Why is there not some massive revolt, some huge insurrection against Microsoft? Why is there not a huge contingent of furious users stomping up to Seattle with torches and scythes and crowbars, demanding the Windows Frankenstein monster be sacrificed at the altar of decent functionality and an elegant user interface?

I'm glad I'm a SimplyMEPIS user. For one thing, I don't have to worry about spyware at all. No viruses. No pop ups. No browser hijack issues. 0 data loss.

I can make spreadsheets, type professional documents, make presentations, and save them in any format - MS Office included. I can view any movie, burn to any optical format I need, create PDF's, download music, configure my desktop to look insanely gorgeous [A], and I can run the latest hot games if I want. I'm really, really, happy I don't have to deal with any kind of insane charges anymore either. If I need an application that does something very minor - it's free. The Debian Community is there, and pool of programs they offer is huge. The MEPIS community is nearly perfect. They respond to your issues, they do it fast, and most of all, are more than willing to help. Your message won't be forwarded to Uganda, Ireland, or Bombay. You won't be billed for answering a question that should be basic knowledge. All you have to do is read.

I am happy that the day of Microsoft will pass soon. The younger generations will have a choice - which is something my generation did not have. The youth has an understanding of machinery that surpasses any previous generation before it. It makes not difference whether they are male or female. Watching a little girl setup a PC in under one minute, and load up her favorite game in under five minutes is impressive. Watching a small boy look for a movie codec[1], and install it properly so he can watch a cartoon is fantastic. They'll be able to read of course, and most of all feel the pulse of the web. They'll see what goes down, and keep up with what Microsoft does from time to time simply based on exposure. They won't be putting up with the atrocities their parents had to.

Below we can find evidence of crumbling, and nervousness that Mr. Gates feels.

Bill Gates is nervous. Longhorn[2] was due this year...it didn't come. It's now slated for 2006 magically. Hmm. Why is that? Who knows. I bet he does. He knows it's not ready, and most of all knows his programmers can't work with out-dated, and fallible waste [3]. Only a ground up re-write of Windows will do. And even then - they'll still be on the bottom given the time it takes for their "newer better" version to be mainstream. By that time Linus Torvalds, and company will have struck a chord with humanity. Software is offered at a much lower price, and sometimes completely free. An operating system that will work, is user friendly, and reliable is here. Take a peep at Mepis.org and you'll see what I mean.

And yeah, the excuse that b/c Linux avoids hacks b/c it is not mainstream is false. The lie that it is insecure b/c it's "open source" is even more disgusting. Go look at the web server market, and you'll see. The best sites on the web getting over 3 million hits a day will not run Windows. Why? Because Windows servers get hacked, and get owned[4] more often than not. eBay, Amazon.com, and a slew of Fortune 500 companies will not even touch Windows Server 2003.

Evidence of the security of Windows vs. Linux below.

The clock is running and I'm getting sick of people belittling themselves over computers. Machines are your friends. They always have been. Leave it to a bunch of corporate greed mongers to make you think you are inferior. If one takes a look at the link below and you'll see what I mean.

Translation Guide:
[A]: Take a look at http://www.kde-look.org.
[B]: Doom 3, Half Life 2, War Craft III, Unreal Tournament 2004, etc. http://www.transgaming.com/
[1]: A codec is a sort of a plugin used to play a certain movie file format. Such as a ".mov" or ".avi".
[2]: The next iteration of Windows. Longhorn is the codename they use for it currently.
[3]: Rolling the same code over, and over, and over, and over again without fixing it.
[4]: Taken over by hackers, and turned into remote controlled machines.
